The 19th edition of AROUND THE WORLD IN 14 FILMS ends on December 7th with one of the most important films of the 2024 festival autumn: “Queer” by cult director Luca Guadagnino.
At its world premiere last September at the Venice Film Festival, “Queer” by Italian director Luca Guadagnino (“Challengers”, “Call Me by Your Name”) was one of the festival’s major highlights. The festival will show the film drama with superstar Daniel Craig as a German premiere at the cinema in the KulturBrauerei at the end of the festival on December 7th, 2024. The screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes is based on the autobiographical novella of the same name by author William S. Borroughs. In the film, American expat William Lee (Daniel Craig) meets former soldier Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey) in Mexico City and a very intimate connection develops that takes them to South America in search of the legendary drug Yage... Rolling Stone describes Luca Guadagnino's film drama as "dirty, hot and utterly gorgeous" - and at the same time celebrates it as a milestone in the career of lead actor Daniel Craig. For his performance in "Queer", the Brit has been nominated for Best Actor at the upcoming 37th European Film Awards. MUBI will release the film in cinemas nationwide on January 2, 2025.
