Synopsis

“Casablanca. While at lunch with her family, Sofia experiences violent stomach cramps. Her cousin Lena, a medical student, quickly examines her. Suddenly, water starts running down Sofia’s thighs: she’s about to give birth. Sofia is in pregnancy denial. Using a trip to the pharmacy as a pretext, Lena takes Sofia to the hospital. With the arrival of the baby, the two cousins, who have nothing in common, go off into the night on a desperate search to find the child’s father and convince him to legally recognize the baby.“ (Cineuropa) “Debuting writer-director Meryem Benm’Barek won the best screenplay prize in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section, though even without the award, this admirably mordant film deserves to travel widely on the festival circuit as well as art houses beyond its Francophone countries of origin.“ (Jay Weissberg, Variety)
